APPRENTICESHIP GRANTS

The Pennsylvania Council for the Arts (PCA) is dedicated to fostering the continuation of folk art traditions in the Commonwealth. Through the Folk Art Apprenticeship grant program, master folk artists can share their knowledge and advanced skills with a qualified apprentice. These grant amounts can reach up to $4000 to cover the instruction fees, supplies, and other needs to continue this mission.
The Walk In Art Center is the partner for the PCA in the Folk and Traditional Arts and helps to spread the word of this incredible opportunity and to help interested folk artist with the application and other questions.

PROJECTS AND PROGRAMS

FOLK ART GALLERY
The Folk Art Alliance relocated its Folk Art Gallery on the 1st floor of the Walk In Art Center and is now the first thing people encounter when entering the building. Filled with displays of local folk artists' work and information panels about the artists themselves and the history of their art form, it's a fun and engaging space for folks to learn about the tradition bearers that are carrying your heritage forward!

FOLK FEST
Join us for our Bi-Annual Gathering of Artists, where vibrant traditions come to life! Experience a rich showcase of local talent through captivating performances, interactive workshops, and unique vendors. Celebrate the artistry and heritage of our region as artists share their stories and skills with the public. It's a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in culture and community!

FIBER ARTS
Knitting, spinning, crocheting, weaving and more! Fiber artists get together to share projects, learn new techniques, and socialize. The Fiber Arts Guild at the Walk In Art Center holds open studio days for weaving, spinning, and other fiber-related arts as well as regular classes in various different techniques. The group's "Sheep to Shawl" team competes regularly in festivals and fairs around the state.
